Qataris Still Hopeful of Manchester United Takeover

Sheikh Jassim, a potential buyer for Manchester United, might consider purchasing Tottenham Hotspur if his bid for the Red Devils is unsuccessful. He is currently in a competition with Sir Jim Ratcliffe to acquire ownership of Manchester United, with bidding rounds reaching around £5 billion. Sheikh Jassim remains hopeful of surpassing the INEOS chairman and securing a successful bid.

In the event that the Manchester United takeover falls through, Sheikh Jassim is said to have expressed interest in Tottenham. ESPN journalist Mark Ogden suggests that the Qataris are keen to have ownership in a Premier League club, shifting their focus to English football after their ownership of PSG. It is believed that they see Ligue 1 as insufficient in terms of scale.

Ogden revealed information he had heard regarding the Qataris’ potential interest in acquiring Spurs if their bid for Manchester United fails. The Qataris aim to establish a footprint in the Premier League and could potentially turn to Tottenham as an alternative option.

Ogden further mentioned that if the Qataris were to buy Tottenham, they would join the likes of Manchester City and Newcastle United, both owned by Middle Eastern entities. This could result in three clubs pulling away financially in the Premier League.

While Tottenham is not currently up for sale like Manchester United, the club has faced various issues this season. They parted ways with manager Antonio Conte following his comments about the club’s lack of ambition. Ryan Mason has been appointed as the temporary coach until the end of the season. Tottenham currently sits in seventh place in the league and has failed to qualify for the UEFA Champions League.
