Anime Publications Losing out on $millions due to wrong advertising

Owners and webmasters of anime/manga publications and websites are losing millions each month due to the wrong type of advertising according to Revcpm CEO Richard George.

George, who has been involved in the online advertising industry since 1999 suggests it’s not about placing any old advert up these days, but that it needs to be the correct one that will appeal to anyone of their visitors.

“If we use Anime as a prime example, I could go on a number of the big anime websites out there and see ads that simply don’t correlate at all with a fan of anime. People visit sites because they are interested in it. If they see more content that’s appealing to them they will stick around for much longer, and that goes for advertisements that they don’t necessarily view as an advertisement.”

George is perhaps relating to the new and unique video content widget. Think of Outbrain but with, well, brains actually.

“The video content widget just blends in with the website so for the general user they’ll see it as being part of the website they’re on. The clever part of it is that it detects what’s on the page, if the article is about Anime then the video content inside the widget will be anime related. If the article is about Naruto, then the videos will be about the famous Naruto.”

It’s this content that keeps users watching for longer on the site they actually want to be on. Hopefully the days of native advertising offering just clickbait and taking the user off-site will soon be a thing of the past, something that George agrees with.

“Absolutely, the likes of Taboola and Outbrain have their own business model and good luck to them, but my onus is fully on providing websites and publications options to keep their users on their site, not to some click-baity article that has zero relevance.”

But what of the lost millions?

“They can gain it back and fast. With advertisers seeking out customers based on micro preferences we’re seeing a surge in demand to advertise to the most niche of subjects, and video content, based on what he user is reading is pivotal to that change. The earnings per thousand views are simply sky rocketing.”
